1 Year of Blogging

On this day, 1 year ago, I felt terrible.

I had finished a term of uni, I wasn’t exactly loving my flatmates, I was so set on converting to law after my degree but I’d done a term and realised that I’d lost all passion for everything I was doing.  In a last-stitch attempt to get back to who I was, I opened WordPress and started this blog.

It was never intended to be anything but a creative outlet because my head was so messed up and all over the place and I needed somewhere to rearrange my thoughts.  I loved writing, I always have, and so I wanted to get back to that, because it was my first real passion.  I never set out to commercialise my blog or do anything but write for myself – I didn’t even expect to attract a viewership… Now here I am, a year later and I actually can’t believe what has come from my blog in a short year.

I remember writing a list of 20 things to do before I turned 20 in September and on their I wrote that I wanted 70 followers before September.  When I wrote it I thought I was being really cheeky… I was never going to get a whole 70 people to subscribe to my blog by the end of the year!  I’m a nobody with a laptop, why would they?  Now here I am, a year later with over 3100 followers?!  That’s completely insane!!! How did that happen?! I’m amazed by it, it’s actually surpassed all my expectations by a ridiculous amount!  I’m pretty sure I got to like 35 subscribers in February, and when that happened I was ecstatic because I never expected that 35 strangers would care what I thought.  My brain can’t properly comprehend that over 3000 of you have tuned in in just a year of me doing this and I can’t wait to see what next year brings now.

This blog has done so much more for me than I expected it to do.  I’ve grown in confidence, I’ve gotten better at handling emotions, I’ve made some amazing friends through it and I’ve gotten some amazing opportunities.  I worked with brands?!  Wagamama collaborated with me?!  All in the space of a year?!  It’s absolutely unbelievable and I still can’t quite comprehend it all.  I had no real vision of where I saw this all going and now it’s helped me to shape my future and my five year plan.

I cannot thank everyone that’s read my blog over the last year enough, and I hope you continue to join me on this journey.  Honestly I’m now really emotional over this little space on the internet and I’m ready to ride this wave as far as I can.  I hope you like the content that’s coming out during my 12 days of blogging, as well as my content for the New Year, I’m very excited about everything next year wants to bring me (But there will be further posts on that).

It’s so weird how a snap decision can change your life.  I’m so glad that I made this one.

Lots of love,

Jas xx

I’m glad you made the decision also! Your blog has inspired me and gave me hope for my own blog! I started mine just for an outlet too and to inspire people and it was reading your encouraging posts that made me want to keep going! You’re one of my favorite bloggers! Great post! Merry Christmas and Happy First year of blogging!
