20 Before 20 | Guest Posts & Singing In Public(!?)…

As January comes to an end, we are almost exactly 7 months away from me turning 20, and 2 steps closer to me completing my list of 20 things to do before I turn 20.  January was a blur of a month with Uni, exams, leaving home again, coming back home again for reading week and starting new modules…. I feel like so much was going on I didn’t really have a moment to myself.  However I was determined to at least make it somewhere with my list, so I managed to tick off the following…

3. Guest Write On Another Blog

I still don’t quite know how to categorise my blog; Am I lifestyle?  Am I studenty stuff?  I kind of want to be a bit of everything, and I’m still testing out a bunch of new content… Which is why, when Jessika from Little Look Book needed someone to do a guest post on beauty favourites I figured I could kill 2 birds with one stone.  I’m not a makeup artist or skincare specialist, but I’ve taken the time to figure out what works for me and my skin, so I actually had quite a fun time writing a piece on 5 Winter Beauty Essentials Under £10 for her website.  (If you’ve checked it out and you liked what I wrote, leave me a little comment down below, and maybe I’ll start doing posts like that on here).

Guest posting was actually pretty cool!  I’ve always been one of these people that likes challenges and something to work towards, and although I’m really enjoying managing this blog and essentially “being my own boss”, I’ve always found the feeling of working under a deadline and sending work to someone else rewarding.  Not only did guest posting make me feel like a real, professional blogger, but I really love the blogging community and I’ve realised that I like communicating and working with other bloggers (Wow… Didn’t that really make me sound like an adult this is working!).  I’m looking forward to hopefully doing more guest posts in the future!

15. Sing More (Maybe even publicly?)…

I think I also mentioned this in my Project 2017 January Update, so apologies if this is very similar, but hey it was a pretty big moment for me so I’m gonna write about it again.  This one will probably be more detailed as well…

I’ve sung in public previously, but usually I’m pushed into it by a bunch of friends, and when I do it I like to take as much of a backseat role as I can… but this time I swore it would be different – I am almost 20 after all.  I’d decided that this goal was something I was never going to get done unless I pushed myself into it and took action, so one day I texted my friend and asked her if she was up for an open mic night.  After an afternoon of rehearsing with a guitar and 2 of my friends in a University kitchen, I was standing in front of an audience at a local bar facing my fears.

Getting up on stage was terrifying, but the rush I felt when it was done made all my nerves worth it.  I forgot how much I loved to sing, especially when it’s songs that I’ve chosen myself and I know suit me vocally.  It’s funny to think that a list I made and a text message may have opened new doors for me… We were really well received so we’re planning to sing at more events and actually make something of this.  I have no idea what’s gonna happen, but I’m extremely excited.

So 2 down, 18 to go… Let’s see how February goes…

Lots of love,

Jas xx

I love this post, it’s really cool to have some goals set out of things to aim for before your next birthday. Love the singing one, so cool – I used to be in the school choir, but I get too nervous singing in front of other people now, so I’d love to hear more about it if you get the chance to do it! The guest posting one is a good one too, it’s fun to be able to share your blog with another group of people. Love your blog, making sure I’m following you now as I just came across from Danielle’s group. – Tasha
